If you not dead set on Houston, there is a great debate going on regarding whether Houston or Dallas is better for young single professionals.

Midtown, Downtown. Great for singles.. when you start a family... I recommend getting into the suburbs. Northwest Houston..Great area. Great schools.

The Heights. There are lots of great affordable family homes near downtown.
