About Montrose/Neartown

View Montrose/Neartown home listings...

Known as the most eccentric and diverse neighborhood in Houston, Montrose is home to some of the best restaurants, bars, clubs, and live music venues in the entire city. Living up to its reputation an artsy community, the streets are lined with retro furniture stores, tattoo parlors, psychics, and trendy yet down to earth coffee shops. The main area of Montrose / Neartown extends about 4 square miles, and currently has around 30,000 residents. With the city’s largest gay community, Montrose is also home to the best gay clubs in Houston as well as the nation’s largest gay pride celebration.

Just West of Downtown, the real estate in the Montrose/Neartown area consists of renovated mansions, bungalows, and a few high rise condominiums. There are also several apartment complexes in the area for young professionals and students at nearby St. Thomas University. Since the neighborhood is so small, people tend to live close to the center of town so that they can walk from their homes to all the bars and restaurants. Much like Memorial and Tanglewood, real estate investments in Montrose have performed extremely well over the past decade, and are set to grow even more in the years to come.

Moving to Houston from another texas city and need a frame of reference? The Montrose scene can be compared to the vibrant nightlife of Lower Greenville in Dallas.

Commute

Much like its more conventional and family oriented neighbor, the Houston Heights, residents of the Montrose area don't have to worry about dealing with a nasty commute.
