One of the Wealthiest neighborhoods in Houston, Memorial is divided into 5 villages which operate completely separately from the city of Houston. Bunker Hill Village, Hedwig Village, Spring Valley, Piney Point Village, and Hunters Creek Village all have their own police and fire departments as well as their own community bylaws. Approximately 20 miles West of Downtown, the Memorial area also home to the Houston Galleria which is the 7th largest mall in America. In addition to great restaurants and shopping, Memorial park is the largest urban park in the United States with 1,500 acres of jogging and biking trails, tennis courts, volleyball nets, and just about any other outdoor sport you can imagine. Another major factor that draws the wealthy to memorial are the excellent public schools.

Residential real estate in the memorial neighborhood tends to be expensive, fairly new, and built on large lots. Although you can find a starter home in the high $200,000’s, most homes for sale in Memorial will in the $400,000 to $600,00 range with some new homes costing well over a million. Most of the properties are single family homes, but there are also condos and townhomes near memorial Park and the Houston Galleria that are much more affordable. Memorial is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Houston, and according to the Houston Chronicle, the real estate market in Memorial area is set to increase even more in the years to come.

Moving to Houston from another Texas city? Memorial is similiar to the University Park area near SMU campus in Dallas.



Commute

Commutes times from Memorial to downtown Houston should take around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. By avoiding I-10, and staying on Memorial Drive the entire way, residents are able to avoid traffic delays and construction.

Schools

School District: Spring Branch Independent School District

Schools: Unlike the other Houston suburbs and neighborhoods near downtown, Memorial is part of the Spring Branch Independent School District rather than the Houston School District. This means that teenagers in this wealthy neighborhood will attend Memorial High School which has consistently been ranked as one of the top 100 public schools in America by Nesweek Magazine.
